It was the magnificent seven for the Dons as AFC Wimbledon Ladies played their first game back at Cherry Red Records Stadium Plough Lane in The Vitality Women's FA Cup.

The Dons put in a performance worthy of the occasion as they put Walton Casuals to the sword in front of 1405 fans setting a new club record attendance. The Dons ended up running out 7-1 winners including a magnificent hattrick from Ashlee Hincks against a game Walton Casuals team that included former Dons players. The 7 dons goals mean they have now scored 28 goals in their last 5 games which also includes 4-0 wins against Norwich, 5-2 against QPR and 9-1 against Stevenage.

The Dons faced a disrupted build up to the game after the squad suffered from a COVID outbreak after their 4-0 away win at Norwich meaning the Dons have only been able to train once in the last 2 weeks in the build up to their big day in front of the Dons fans at their new home.

Despite the disrupted build up didn't hold the Dons back on their back day as Kelly Highman scored from close range after just 4 minutes to give the Dons the perfect start to their homecoming. The Dons continued to put the pressure on and it felt like it was only a matter of time before they would get further rewards, and sure enough on the 20 minute mark the Dons doubled their lead after a magnificent solo goal from Rebecca Carter who finished a run from the halfway line with a magnificent lob of the Walton keeper. The Dons' day got even better on the half hour mark when referee Lucy Clark awarded the Dons a penalty after Walton Casuals were deemed to have handled the ball when defending a corner. Ashlee Hincks got her first goal of the afternoon with an emphatic penalty to give the Dons a 3-0 lead. With the game heading towards halftime Walton Casuals got a deserved goal after a scramble inside the penalty area. Meaning the Dons went into the break with a deserved 3-1 lead.

Walton started the second half strongly but it was the Dons who scored the first goal of the second half as a magnificent team goal with great build play from Hincks and a great assist by Rosie Russell before Megan Stow finished the move. With the crowd getting behind the Dons and an incredible atmosphere was building as the Dons caught Walton on the break with Rebecca Carter getting her second of the day to move the Dons into a 5-1 lead. With 12 minutes to go Ashlee Hincks scored from a ridiculously tight angle to further extend the Dons lead. Hincks then completed her hattrick after scoring from very close range to bring the final score to 7-1.

The end to end game was entertaining for the 1405 fans in attendance and our thanks go to all of those who turned up to cheer us on for our return to Plough Lane and we hope to see you all and even more for our next game at our new home.
