AFC WIMBLEDON GIRLS' TRIALS

June 13, 2021

On the 6th and 13th of June we had the amazing opportunity to host our 2021/22 trials and what a great success it was.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all involved with AFC Wimbledon who made the day a success. From the planning, behind the scenes to the coaching, everyone came together for the girls and that's what this is all about, providing the best possible opportunities for girls' football.

We are proud to announce that throughout the 2 days we had a total of 217 girls which is up from 180 girls from your last trial in the 2019/2020 season. We unfortunately was unable to host trials last year due to COVID-19.

Thank you also to our extended AFC Wimbledon family in Kevin Foster, First Team Manager and Foundation Football Development Officer Kasha Petit who attended our trials in order to show support and observe our girls. It is great to see the growing link between all three sections (Our Youth, the First Team and the Foundation) which in turn will benefit the development of our girls.

Abdullah Kheir, Head of Football, says, "To the players, parents and coaches - THANK YOU!!

With the sun shining we opened our doors once again to trialists. The turn out over the two Sundays saw us welcome a plethora of talented players, fantastic to see and even more pleasing the uptake of girls football.

Players registered, numbers pinned - the excitement and enthusiasm projected, the girls were ready.

Skill based practices and small sided games afforded us the opportunity to allow the girls to express their ability and qualities. Whilst we cannot offer places to all those that attended, there will be a large pool of players that I’m sure will go on to play for clubs and showcase their exceptional talent.

We as a club will support that and provide pathways to clubs we have formed referral links with.

Ladies manager, Kevin and senior coaches Blaine and Andrew supported the trials, keeping an eye on the future AFC Wimbledon first team players.

As they say, the future is bright!

Once again, many thanks to the coaches for supporting the day. An even bigger thank you to our club secretary; Sam. The hard work behind the scenes cannot go unnoticed."

With a change in structure this year; from the top, these trials have reflected our club mission statement which we are extremely proud of.

Thank you once again for all those involved, we are so excited of what is to come for our youth and look forward to seeing the growth and development of our young girls.
