The Dons extended their unbeaten run to 10 games with an incredible victory away to Hashtag United in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. Wimbledon went into the game against the side second in the same league as the Dons who  went into the game unbeaten so far this season having to make several changes due to a growing injury list.

A scrappy first half slightly edged by Hashtag with neither team having a clear cut chance meant that going into the break the 0-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of the competitive game that was playing out. The second half started in much of the same way however as the game went on the Dons began to grow into it and were starting to create some chances with the front 3 of Rebecca Carter, Gloria Siber and Katie Stanley starting to link up and generate a few chances. However the game seemed destined for extra time until the 92nd minute when the Dons were awarded a freekick for a foul on Gloria Siber about 20 yards out which was smashed in by Ashlee Hincks with the keeper unable to keep it out.

The late winner ensured the Dons unbeaten run was extended to 10 games which has seen them record wins over Stevenage, QPR, Kent Football United, Norwich, Walton Casuals, Chesham, Millwall, London Bees and now Hashtag United. Scoring an incredible 37 goals in those games whilst only conceding 7.

The Dons now progress to the 3rd round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup a victory would see them progress to the 4th round which is where Super League Club enter the competition and would equal the Dons best ever performance in the competition. The next round of the competition is being played on Sunday 12th December

Next up for the Dons is yet another away game (their 5th in a row) as we travel to Portishead on Sunday 5th for the next round of the FAWNL Plate.

Manager Kevin Foster “Credit to the girls, they were excellent. We were not at our best today but one thing this group is growing in is resilience and they dug it out and kept going and going and it was a bit of quality at the end that got us the game”
