MILLWALL LIONESSES 0 - 2 AFC WIMBLEDON

November 14, 2021

AFC Wimbledon Ladies extended their winning run to 7 straight games with a dominant performance to secure a 2-0 away win against Millwall Lionesses in The Vitality Womens FA Cup. The Dons went into the game on the back of our two homecoming games at The Cherry Red Records Stadium Plough Lane and on the back of 6 consecutive wins. Millwall went into the game also in fine form having won their last 7 games.

In what was always going to be a tough game against a combative Millwall side the Dons dominated from the first minute. Despite having 15 first half shots, somehow the game was goalless at Half time. The Dons came out strong in the second half and kept the pressure on a resilient Millwall side who were kept in the game by the goalkeeper on numerous occasions. The breakthrough finally came for the Dons with 10 minutes to goal when a fine finish from Katie Stanley gave the Dons a deserved lead. Rather than sitting back the Dons kept pushing forward and got their reward in the 90th minute when substitute Emily Donovan converted after an excellent cross from the right hand side from Rebecca Carter.

The win comes at the start of a busy week for the Dons which sees them on the road in a league game against Actonians on wednesday night before travelling to London Bees on sunday in the county cup.

Manager Kevin Foster said “In the last 20 minutes they started to tire and we started to get our heads around it a little bit and its a great finish from Katie Stanley and a great cross from Chewey (Rebecca Carter) and a great run from Emily (Donovan) to get us over the line”
